Leblanc Model 35 Vito Semi-Rationale
NO LONGER AVAILABLE
Notice how I tried to bury the name “Vito” in the title of this webpage. Vito’s just don’t get no respect. But this is a different animal.
You already know about the Model 35, right?
– It has a unique rectangular left hand pinky key cluster which is immediately recognizable.
-This horn is keyed to high F#. the high F# key (situated above the G# keytouch, below the lefthand palm keys and operated by the left hand!), is also unique to the Model 35.
-The octave mechanism has a unique linkage to the G key. The G key is comprised of two keys over two separate tone holes to improve intonation and response.
– While the G# fingertouch is in the normal place, the G# key pan is on the back of the body, right below the strap hook. The Articulated G# function works with this design. This helps response in that all the stack keys are open without a closed key in the middle.
-The horn has the forked Eb fingering like many vintage horns from the 30’s and earlier. This provides an additional fingering for the Eb/D# where you use you second finger of the right hand, not the pinkie.
Don’t be alarmed, all the regular fingerings you have learned are there and the horn can be played normally. There are just additional alternative fingerings available if you wish to use them. If you really want to get into it, here is a PDF of the fingering chart.
